ROUGH RIDERS PLACE THIRD AND SEVENTH AT DISTRICT; 12 ATHLETES ADVANCE TO AREA

Rough Riders place third and seventh at District; 12 Athletes advance to Area

Saginaw Track competed at the 5-5A District Championships held at Aledo on April 3-4, with the Lady Rough Riders claiming a fourth-place finish. Leading the team was senior London Provo, who delivered an outstanding performance throughout the meet, breaking personal and school records. On day one, Provo soared to a personal best and secured the district title in the triple jump with a leap of 37-2.25, surpassing her previous best by over a foot and a half. On the following day, she contributed to the team's success by clinching a team point with a sixth-place finish in the long jump and ran the first leg in the winning 4x100m relay alongside Anabelle Aguilera, Lacey Clark, and Trinity Coleman. They set a new school record of 48.22. Provo also won a district title in the 100m (12.22) and earned second place in the 200m, where she set a new personal best and school record of 24.94. Lacey Clark secured third place in the 200m with a personal best time of 25.21, placing her third on the Saginaw All-Time list. In the 300m hurdles, freshmen Jazmine Duncan and senior Zaria Barnes ran lifetime bests, securing third (46.74) and fourth (47.02) place respectively to qualify for the Area Championships. Sophomore Emily Story contributed to the team's total with a sixth-place finish. The Lady Rough Riders qualified six girls in five events for the upcoming Area meet at Clark Stadium on Apr. 12.

The boys team placed seventh overall and had several athletes with top finishes qualify for the Area meet. Londen Houston clinched third place in the 100M, earning an Area spot. Additionally, the 4x200m relay team of Darius Thomas, Londen Houston, Jimmy Howard and Paul Barasa placed third place, as did the 4x400m relay team of Thomas, Jason Roseberry, David Oladipupo Barasa, all earning Area Qualifier spots. Roseberry also earned a fifth place finish in the 400m, while Barasa showcased finished in 5th place in the 200m and 6th place in Long Jump. Isaac Bukasa secured 6th place in the 300m hurdles and Jonathan Lawson took sixth in the triple jump.
