Chelsie Jefferson - Girls Gymnastics. "Chelsie consistently has hit routines at every meet and qualified in the All-Around to the State meet in El Paso." - Bethany Valenga

London Provo - Girls Track and Field. "London is the Area Champion in the 100m and new school record holder in the event. She led her 4x100m team to a third-place finish at Area and a school record. At the Area Championships she competed in the 100m, 200m, triple jump and 4x100m relay. She qualified for the Regional Championships in the 100m, triple jump and the 4x100m relay." - Desiree James

Grayson  Chancellor - Baseball. Grayson hit .571 with a double and pitched 5 innings with only 1 Earned Run

Mathy Tampwo - Boys Soccer. Mathy made two goals in the first round playoff game. 

Aiden Roy - Boys Gymnastics. Aiden was All-District on High Bar, advancing to Regionals.

Vincent Gonzales - Baseball. Vincent has a .500 Avg with three hits, two sacrifices and great defense.

Boys 4x200m Relay Team - Track & Field. The boys 4x200m Relay team is comprised of Darius Thomas, Aidan Collier, Londen Houston and Paul Barasa. They placed first overall at the Angelo State Relays on Mar. 14. The team broke the school record with a 1:28.24 which places them in the Top 4 of the Region and Top 10 in the State.

Donnie Edgar - Baseball. Donnie had a complete game, one hitter with 10 strike outs versus Northwest.




March 8, 2024

Gavin Leadbetter - Baseball. Gavin had a .389 average with seven hits, one double and a save last week.

Lucas Guhl - Boys Gymnastics. Lucas is ranked in the Top 10 in the Region.



March 1, 2024

Anely Paz - Softball. For the week Anely had a batting average .556, 10 hits, nine singles, one triple, three RBIs, six runs scored and two stolen bases. Felding percentage .833.

London Provo - Track & Field. London placed fourth in the 100m and 200m and was the first leg of the 4x200m team that won Gold and set a new school record at Saturday's Rough Rider Relays. She added 15 points to the team total. Her time in the 200m is a Top 50 time in Texas. The 4x200m relay she started is currently #2 in the Region. This is the third year in a row that she has been a member of the record breaking 4x200m team.




February 23, 2024

Rhyan Angles - Softball. At last week's game vs Fossil Ridge and the tournament at Godley, Rhyan had two two-run homers, scored five runs herself, played third base, first base and pitched. She ended up with a .941 fielding average, along with giving a total of nine hits, ten walks and seven strike outs.

Paul Barasa - Track & Field. Paul broke the school record in the 200m Dash. Paul currently sits #28 overall in the U.S., #15 overall in the State of Texas and #5 overall in class 5A.

Jesus Torres - Boys Gymnastics. Jesus is a four year varsity gymnast and band member. "He is a true leader in our school." - Coach Briley

Jaiden Gastile - Boys Basketball. Jaiden had 17 points, four blocks, three rebounds in their win over Azle. He had 19 points, eight rebounds, four blocks in loss to Granbury and 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the win over W.F. Rider. Gastile had 11 points in the win over Northwest.




February 2, 2024

Madelyn Palacios - Girls Soccer. "Madelyn Palacios has been a part of the varsity team since her freshman year. As soon as she steps on the field, her presence is known. She is a competitor and a great communicator. Madelyn Palacios was able to score the only goal on Friday's district home opener against Northwest. This year, Madelyn has shown that she is willing to do what it takes for the team to win. She normally plays defense, but she adjusted well to her new position on Friday night's game. She fought for every ball and played one of her best games. I have enjoyed watching her grow as a player on the field but also as a person off the field." -Coach Hernandez

Sophianne Cortes- Girls Swimming. Sophomore Sophianne Cortes won the District Championship in the 50-yard Freestyle and also the 100-yard Butterfly with dominant races, and is advancing to Regionals in both events. Additionally, she led two Regional qualifying relay teams to Top 6 finishes. Sophianne was awarded the well-earned “Athlete of the Meet” award for the District 5-5A Swimming Championships. She currently holds 6 Saginaw High School records and is the Girls’ Team Captain.

Grant Morgan - Boys Gymnastics. Grant is ranked in the Top 10 in the State on High Bar and Vault.
Cameron Thomas - Boys Basketball. Cameron had eight points and 15 rebounds in their win over Northwest.

Christian Jessie (CJ) - Boys Gymnastics. Jesse is the only freshmen to make the highly competitive varsity gymnastics team.

Vincent Quijano - Swimming. Vincent is the boys’ team captain, and swam personal records in both the 50 backstroke and 50 freestyle at the Heights Winter Invitational meet. His leadership by example at meets and practices has been one of the keys to this season’s Rough Rider Swimming successes leading up to next week’s district championships!

Aston Carasco - Boys Gymnastics. Aston has scored two perfect 10s this year so far!

David Johnson - Boys Basketball. David had four points, three rebounds, five assists in their win over Brewer. He also had seven points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in their win over Azle.

Jordan Swann - Boys Gymnastics. Jordan scored 10.0 at the Rockwall meet before the break!

Julius Brundage - Boys Basketball. Julius scored 21 points in a win over Paschal, 14 points in a win over Aledo, 14 points in a win over Joshua, 11 points in a win over Kennedale, 12 points in a win over Decatur and 10 points in a loss to Fossel Ridge.

Galilea Casas - Girls Wrestling. Galilea placed at the EMS ISD tournament over the weekend. 

Jason Roseberry - Boys Basketball. Jason scored 17 in the win over Weatherford, nine in the win over Godley, seven in the win over Abilene, 11 in the win over Springtown and 11 in the loss ot Georgetown last week.



December 8, 2023

Maya Castillo - Girls Gymnastics. Maya tied for first in the All Around with a 38.7. She also placed second on Vault with a 9.85, first on Beam with a 9.8 and third on Floor with a 9.65 at their meet last week.

Cameron Thomas - Boys Basketball. Cameron had 20 points and 17 rebounds in the Rough Riders 77-40 win against Lake Country Christian.

Jace Hess - Golf. Jace led the Saginaw men’s golf team in the Trinity Invitational held at Texas Star Golf Course. This is the second straight tournament that Jace was the low scorer. “Jace continues to play steady, dependable golf. He makes a big impact for our team, going out and knowing we can count on his leadership and his ability to post solid scores, its such a benefit for the rest of the squad.” - Coach Henson

Aaron Hill - Swimming. Aaron started this year with no swimming experience. Since then he worked his way up to the maximum allowed 4 events at the Hebron Invitational, including leading off the 200 Medley Relay and swimming the 400 freestyle relay with some of the most experienced members of the team. He is always eager to learn new skills, and consistently proves himself to be one of the hardest workers on the Rough Rider Swimming Team!





November 10, 2023

Atilano "Archie" Smith - Football. Atilano had a great all-around performance in the Rough Riders season ending win over South Hills. He contributed to the effort with two receptions, a rushing touchdown, and a stellar special teams play. Archie has also been a huge factor in the team leadership over the course of the season. He has always put the team first and is highly respected by players and coaches alike.

Corey Baker - Football. Corey had 14 carries for 133 yard and two touchdowns in last week's win against South Hills.



November 3, 2023

Daniella Banda - Volleyball. In the last match of the season against Brewer, Daniella passed a 2.43 in serve receive and had 14 digs. 

Emily Maysonet - Golf. Emily competed in the Argyle Invitational Golf Tournament at Decatur Golf Club and finished 10th in a field of 60 players from the northern metro area. “I was really proud of Emily, she worked really hard and stayed really focused and the practices she’s been having, I wasn’t surprised to see her play the way she did. Her tee shots were setting her up for success all day.  Very proud of the progress she continues to make.” - Coach Henson

Sierra Morrison - Volleyball. Last week against Aledo, Sierra hit 0.222 to lead the team in hitting percentage. She has done a great job this season as a senior leader.

Maddox Miller - Swimming. Maddox swam the 200 yard freestyle for the first time at the NISD 5A Invitational, and finished almost 14 seconds faster than his predicted time! During the same meet Maddox also had strong performances in the 200 Medley Relay, the 200 Free Relay, and the 400 Free Relay events.

Girls 200 Freestyle Relay Team (Sophianne Cortes, Ava Washington, Divya Chhetri, Macey Braden) - At Saturday’s NISD 5A Invitational Meet, this relay completed the event faster than any Rough Rider team since 2017. During the same meet, each athlete swam personal bests in individual events, and relay lead-off swimmer Sophianne Cortes broke her own school record in the 100 Butterfly just a few events before the relay. This group of talented swimmers has been on fire all season!

Samantha Hernandez - Cheer. Sammy demonstrates leadership skills on and off the mat and continues to grow in her stunt and gameday technique!

Vincent Quijano - Swimming. Vincent swam a personal best 26.5 seconds in his leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay and took third place in the 50-yard breast stroke in the Heights Sprint Invitational, where the team took fourth place out of nine schools.

Sheridan Aguilar - Volleyball. In last week's match against Brewer, Sheridan had 25 assists and 12 digs. With those 25 assists, she has now eclipsed 1,000 assists in her career and currently has 1,011 assists.

Donell Jackson - Football. Donell is a defensive tackle. Last week he had one forced fumble, one hurry and five tackles.

Hailey Rodriguez - Cheer. Hailey is steadily showing her leadership skills on and off the mat and continues to grow in her stunt and gameday technique

Brady Brooks - Cross Country. Brady finished 10th at the Castleberry Invitational. He improved his course time by 15 second from last season by running 17:41.94. He is currently ranked 557 out of the senior class in Texas.

Madison Bradley - Volleyball.  In last week's win against Wichita Falls Rider, Madison had her first career double double with 12 kills and 15 digs. These are also career highs for her as well. She had a great week!




September 15, 2023

Calista Miller - Volleyball. Last week in a win against Lake Dallas, Cali passed a 2.14 and had 23 digs. Then in the district opener against Granbury, she passed a 2.43 and had 19 digs. It was a great week for our libero!

Alyssa Weir - Cheer. Alyssa has shown improvements in leadership, basing technique, and overall gameday impression!



September 8, 2023

Stephanie Rota - Tennis. This is Stephanie's third year in tennis and her second year on the varsity team. Last Tuesday, Stephanie was not feeling well but decided to play her doubles match against Granbury because she did not want to let her doubles partner down. Stephanie and her doubles partner won their line 1 girls doubles match 6-2, 6-4.

Gabbie Vasquez - Volleyball. In last week's matches, Gabbie had a hitting percentage of 0.278. She is continually improving each week.



September 1, 2023

Roman Morales - Football.  Roman is the Varsity Quarterback. He went 14 of 28 for 295 yards passing and had two touchdowns. He had five carries for 26 yards rushing.

Elliana Coleman - Volleyball. In last week's matches, Elliana stepped into a new role and ran with it. She had 17 kills, four blocks and seven digs on the week. She helped the Rough Riders make the Gold bracket at the Ragin' Rattler Tournament in San Marcos.

Loryn Johnson - Cheer. Loryn has shown excelled leadership abilities to support her teammates for the upcoming season!

Sheridan Aguilar - Volleyball. In eight matches last week, Sheridan had 10 aces, 26 kills, 4 blocks, 108 assists and 86 digs. She also received All Tournament at the Glen Rose Tournament.


May 5, 2023

Girls 4x200m Relay Team - Track & Field.  The girls 4x200m relay team placed second at the Area Meet setting a new school record (1:45.34) and qualifying for Regionals. This was the first time since 2015 that a girls 4x200 has qualified for Regionals. Junior London Provo, sophomore Elsie Zachry and freshmen Anabelle Aguilera and Trinity Coleman placed 12th at Regionals and look forward to returning next season to lower the record and qualify for State.

Caleb Walrond - Boys Gymnastics. Caleb was the State Champion on vault!

Lexi Lunceford - Softball. Lexi was the only senior on the Saginaw Softball team. In the last week of the season Lexi batted .571 with an on base percent of .625. She went 4 for 7, adding 4 hits to her totals for the season, two of those were bunts for base hits, had 1 RBI and scored 1 run. Lexi's fielding percent was 100%. All season, Lexi has always been the upmost team player - playing any position needed and this last week was no different.

Evan Croft - Boys Gymnastics. Evan was the Regional Runner-Up on Rings.

Anely Paz - Softball. In the games against Aledo and Azle she had four hits, two singles, two doubles, two RBIs. And three assists, 11 total catches, eight putouts and zero errors. 

Aston Carasco - Boys Gymnastics. Aston is a State qualifier.

Devin Behm - Baseball. Devin had a good week hitting, with three hits in eight at bats while driving in one run. Devin has been great defensively all year. This week he was nearly perfect with a .917 fielding percentage while also turning two double plays.

Breil Pyfer - Boys Gymnastics. Breil scored a perfect 10 on high bar on the first day of district championships.

Skyler Barber - Track & Field. kyler Skyler placed second in both the shot and discus at the Ranger Invitational. Both throws were personal records for her. Skyler improved to 35’3” in the shot and 95’5” in the disc. Her performance added 16 points to the teams 101 total. This season Skyler has earned points in the throws in every meet.

Maddy Moors - Softball. Maddy's batting average is .526. She had 10 hits, scored eight runs and had three RBIs. She pitched 2-1 and walked only three batters and struck out eight. In fielding, Maddy had 13 putouts and one error.

Grant Morgan - Boys Gymnastics. Grant is ranked in the Top Ten on Vault and High Bar in the State of Texas.

Caleb Walrond - Boys Gymnastics. Caleb was undefeated in overall score at each meet he has attended. 

Cooper Faulkner - Baseball. Cooper had a great weekend hitting .529 in 17 at-bats and driving in three runs. He also stole five bases and scored seven runs.

Regional Qualifiers on Swimming team - The Rough Rider swimming team had more athletes qualify for the Region 2-5A Championships than ever before in school in history (12), as well as more Regional finalists than ever before (nine). This tremendous accomplishment is a culmination of all the effort the team has invested over the entire season.

Madeline Braden - Girls Soccer. Maddie is a dominant force on the Lady Rough Rider soccer team. She had one goal against Azle which tied up the game and sent the game to penalty kicks. She also had one goal against Granbury on Friday, which also tied the game and sent the game to penalty kicks. Maddie has a competitive spirit, which the team looks up to. She is a great leader on the field and is always ready to go when it's game time!

Daisy Ruiz - Girls Soccer. Daisy had an assist on Friday's night game against Brewer and had a goal on Saturday's game versus Aledo. Daisy is a key player on the Lady Rough Rider varsity soccer team and she always gives 100%. She has a great attitude and is a pleasure to be around. She has a bright future.

David Johnson - Boys Basketball. David had nine points and six rebounds in their win versus Aledo. He also had nine points, eight rebounds, and two steals in their win versus Azle.

Jacky Rangel - Girls Soccer. "Jacky is a great asset to the soccer team and is always willing to step up to a challenge. She has been placed in different positions on the field and she never says no. She is competitive and always gives it her all. She has done well when placed in defense and when we needed an attack, she will step into that role as well. Jacky is a team player and will do what is best for the team. Off the field, she is a sweet and great student."-Coach Hernandez

Sophianne Cortes - Girls Swimming. Sophianne is the district 5-5A 50-yard Freestyle champion, nearly tying her own school record with a dominating 24.68 second race. Her strong performance at the district championships was a key factor in the 200-yard relay regional qualification and the overall 5th place girls team finish.

Madelyn Palacios - Girls Soccer. Junior Madelyn Palacios was nominated by Coach Hernandez. "Madelyn is really bringing her soccer knowledge and skill to the game. She is really stepping up in her role as stopper and she is being very aggressive on the field. She has been very positive and vocal this year and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for her."

Chelsea Moreno-Roman - Girls Swimming. Freshman Chelsea was nominated by Coach Giles. Chelsea is a key part of the girls 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay teams, which both set season records at the Arlington Heights Winter Invitational.

Jaiden Gastile - Boys Basketball. Junior Jaiden Gastile was nominated by Coach Craft. Jaiden had 27 points, eight rebounds, three steals versus their Azle game.

Leila Ruano-Demus - Girls Swimming. Freshman Leila Ruano-Demus was nominated by Coach Giles. Leila set personal records in all four of her events at the Carrollton-Farmer's Branch New Year's Classic in the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard breaststroke, as as part of the 200-yard freestyle and medley relay teams.


December 16, 2022

Junior Julius Brundage was nominated by Coach Craft. He is a member of the Saginaw boys varsity basketball team. Julius had seven points versus Weatherford and Lubbock Christian, eight points versus Dalhart and Wall, 12 points versus Glen Rose and 16 points versus Georgetown.

Freshman Jizelle Weber was nominated by Coach Redden. She is a member of the Saginaw girls wrestling team. Jizelle got 2nd in the 132lb weight division at the EMS-ISD tournament. Jizelle went 2-1 while earning 18 team points.



December 9, 2022

Sophomore Macey Braden was nominated by Coach Giles. She is a member of the Saginaw girls swim team. At the EMS ISD Dual Meet, Macey earned 5th place in the 50-yard freestyle and was part of the 4th place 200-yard freestyle relay team.  She leads weekly captain's practice sessions in the pool and creates unique and challenging workouts for the freshmen swimmers.

Junior Joshua Frandsen was nominated by Coach Giles. He is a member of the Saginaw boys swim team. At the EMS ISD Dual Meet, Joshua earned 2nd place in the 200-yard freestyle and was part of the 1st place 400-yard freestyle relay team.  He continually leads the team in strength and conditioning warmups and workouts.



November 18, 2022

Grace Burland was nominated by Coach Henson. She is a member of the Saginaw girls golf team. Grace shot 88 in the Chisholm Trail Invitational at Hawk's Creek last Wednesday. She finished 4th in the event. I am very proud of how hard Grace has been working. She put in a lot of time and effort this summer and has continued that effort through the fall. She has led our team at every event and I'm excited to see what happens this spring.

Samuel Monjaraz was nominated by Coach Henson. He is a member of the Saginaw boys golf team. Sammy has led the ninth-grade boys team this fall. Last Monday at The Resort he posted a 106. He has been working hard and really coming along, I am excited for what the future holds for this young man.



November 11, 2022

Senior Jasmine Wilcox was nominated by Coach Hughes. She is a member of the Saginaw girls varsity basketball team. Jasmine led our team in our first game of the season with 16 points, six rebounds, seven steals, and seven assists. Jasmine also was seven for nine for 78% from the free throw line in the 56-31 win over Life Waxahachie.

Freshman Gavin Masters-Hogan was nominated by Coach Giles. He is a member of the Saginaw boys swim team. Gavin set three personal records at the Hebron Invitational, and helped lead two relay teams to their best finishes all season.


November 4, 2022

Madison Jackson was nominated by Coach Henson. She is a member of the Saginaw golf team. Madison led the Varsity girls Rough Rider golf team with a career best 104 at the Denton Invitational golf tournament.

Senior Alaril Ferguson was nominated by Coach Peters. He is a member of the Saginaw varsity football team. Alaril had 22 carries for 115 yards rushing. He was the main back in a rushing attack that totaled 292 yards rushing on the night. Alaril is an outstanding leader and a hard worker. He has been a constant positive with the program from day one of fall camp. He contributes on offense, defense, and special teams and his lead by example character trait pushes others to be better. 



October 28, 2022

Sophomore Vincent Quijano was nominated by Coach Giles. He is a member of the Saginaw swim team. Vincent set a personal record in the 200 yard individual medley at their last meet, and shows outstanding leadership during weekly captain-led practices. 

Junior Brady Brooks was nominated by Coach James. He is a member of the Saginaw cross country team. Brady finished eighth at the district meet and was the lone regional qualifier for Saginaw. He improved his district time compared to last season by almost two minutes. Brady ran a personal best at Regionals with a time of 17:18.4 to place 65th out of 184 runners. Last year he finished 133rd at a Regionals.



October 21, 2022

Senior Kennedie Caldwell was nominated by the Saginaw volleyball staff. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. Last week, Kennedie was asked to take on a new role for the team and she stepped up big time! In two matches last week, she had 14 digs and passed a 2.39.

Freshman Avery Mays was nominated by Coach Giles. He is a member of the Saginaw swim team. Avery swam a personal record in the 100 freestyle at the NISD 5A Invitational, bettering his time by almost 19 seconds!

Senior Kayla Jenkins was nominated by the Saginaw volleyball staff. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. In the last five matches, she's had 17 kills, three blocks, and nine digs. She's been a strong contributor to our success this season. 

Junior David Maldonado was nominated by Coach Giles. He is a member of the Saginaw swim team. After recovering from a recent injury, David was prepared to swim in two events at our most recent meet.  On race morning he found out he would actually swim three events, yet he still improved his 25-yard freestyle by over six seconds!



October 7, 2022

Freshman Sophianne Cortes was nominated by Coach Giles. She is a member of the Saginaw swim team. Sophianne broke the 50-yard freestyle record, winning the race almost 3 seconds faster than any Rough Rider swimmer, girl or boy, has ever achieved before.  She also won 100-yard individual medley race at the Yellowjacket Sprint Invite.

Junior Calista Miller was nominated by the Saginaw volleyball staff. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. In last week's matches, she had 31 digs, passed a 2.13, and had three aces. She was a big contributor in both of their district wins!



September 30, 2022

Senior Sofia Baez was nominated by Coach Phillips. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity tennis team. Sofia won her last two singles matches at line 1 and her last two mixed doubles matches.

Senior Mercy Tshienda was nominated by the SHS volleyball staff. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. In last week's wins vs Brewer and Azle, Mercy had nine kills and 10 total blocks. Her play was instrumental in the win against Azle on Friday night.

Junior Sheridan Aguilar was nominated by the Saginaw volleyball coaching staff. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. Sheridan has accumulated 255 assists, 231 digs, and 22 aces so far this season.   

Junior Jaidyn Hildebrand was nominated by Coach Anderson. She is a member of the Saginaw cheer team. Jaidyn has stepped into new roles and hit new skills in different stunt positions. She maintains a positive attitude and models the team-first mentality.

Senior Ayodeji "DJ" Omojola was nominated by Coach Anderson. She is a member of the Saginaw cheer team. DJ consistently uses her leadership skills to elevate her teammates and those around her. Her contributions have allowed SHS Cheer to grow and reach many of its season goals. 

Sophomore Amanda LaBelle was nominated by Coach Phillips. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity tennis team. Mandy fought through to win a very tough singles match against Aledo and is currently undefeated in singles for the season.  Also, she began the season at line 6 girls singles but won a challenge match to move up to line 5 – her match against Aledo was her first match at line 5.



September 9, 2022

Senior Bailee Hewitt was nominated by the Saginaw football staff. With last week's stats, she broke two school records. She now holds the record for Kills in a Season and Kills in a Career. Last Tuesday against Denton Ryan, she led the team with 17 kills and 17 digs. On Friday, against Keller Central, she had 20 kills and 18 digs. 

Senior Zach Garrett was nominated by the Saginaw football staff. He is a member of the Saginaw varsity football team. Zach had a huge night at Friday's game. He had 9 catches for 131 yards and 2 TDs.

Senior Esenia Villa was nominated by Coach Anderson. She is a member of the Saginaw cheer team. Esenia's determination has allowed her to hit new skills this week while exuding leadership and encouragement for the JV and Varsity cheer teams. 

Freshman Kaylee Higgs was nominated by Coach Watson. She is a student athletic trainer at Saginaw.

Senior Caroline Bacon was nominated by Coach Randolph. She is a member of the Saginaw varsity volleyball team. Last week against Burleson Centennial, Caroline had a triple double: 12 kills, 22 assists, and 13 digs. At the Glen Rose Tournament over the weekend, she totaled 15 aces, 32 kills, 107 assists, and 20 digs.

Junior Kamilah Rijo was nominated by Coach Anderson. She is a member of the Saginaw cheer team. Kamilah maintains a positive attitude at practice while encouraging her teammates and her work ethic has allowed her to master several new stunt skills.
