Highland and Prairie Vista Athletes of the Month


MARCH 2024

Highland Middle School - Elijah Irvin and Zaila Rorie

Zaila has been an outstanding athlete this entire year of 7th Grade. Rorie was an A-team volleyball and basketball player and made huge contributions on the court. She has now been competing in track this season helping her relay teams shine as well as placing first in the triple jump while also setting PRs each week. Zaila competed at the Zone Meet and qualified in the triple jump and the 4x100m relay. We are looking forward to her competing in Meet of Champions and what she will continue to do as a Highland Hawk athlete next year in 8th Grade. Way to go Rorie! 


Elijah is a three-sport athlete and was chosen by his peers to be a Captain in 7th grade. He has played football, basketball and now runs track for Highland Middle School. He has dominated on the field and has even placed 1st in his open 200m race in each Track meet so far. He is looking to beat the school record and looks to take first place in his races for the Meet of Champions



Prairie Vista Middle School - Meghan Senter and Peter Akeke

Meghan has shown great improvement over the past year.  Her hard work and dedication have paid off.  She went from not making any team as a 7th grader to being a vital part of our mile relay this year on the track team.  This year we have seen her shine on and off the field.  Every time she steps on the track she gives her all.  She has been a great asset to our program, helping out where needed without any complaints.  She has an overall nice and positive attitude and we love having her around. 

Peter plays football, basketball, track & field and soccer. In the classroom, he works hard at maintaining his grades. He approaches each practice with a relentless competitive spirit. He pushes his teammates to be their best on and off the field. We congratulate Peter on this well-deserved recognition and know that with his drive to improve continuously, he will only continue elevating his game and leadership for Prairie Vista. Thank you for exemplifying great character, Peter!

FEBRUARY 2024



Highland Middle School - Ashley Rees and Randy Lopez

Ashley has been a great asset to the Highland Girl's Athletic Program. She was an A team volleyball player and has been a shining star in track so far this season. She works hard every day and not only in athletics, Ashley is also on the A/B honor roll. We are proud of her hard work and dedication and are looking forward to what she will continue to accomplish as a Highland Hawk.

Randy has been an excellent student-athlete here at Highland. He has been nominated by his peers as a Captain in the 7th Grade. He will be playing Soccer and continue to lead through his actions on and off the field. Great Job Randy!



Prairie Vista Middle School - Shelby Jordan and Sema'j Reynolds

Shelby plays tennis for PV and is our #1 girl currently and has maintained that spot all year winning all the round robins and challenges to hold at #1.  Shelby is passionate and very coachable. We begin our season next Thursday against Ed Willkie at home so I am hoping her wonderful energy will inspire all the rest of the girls.  It is an honor to be her coach.  It's easy when they want to grow as athletes.  She is a great "reflection" of what this program is all about.

Sema'j shows exemplary leadership both in the classroom and in Track & Field. In the classroom, he maintains A and B through his strong work ethic and academic commitment. He works hard and is a top thrower for the 8th grade track team. Sema'j approaches each practice with a relentless competitive spirit. He pushes his teammates to be their best on and off the field. Thank you for exemplifying great character, Sema'j!


JANUARY 2024

Highland Middle School - Lizbeth Estrada and Christnes Nyanguila

Lizbeth has participated in both volleyball and basketball this year. In both seasons she has shown up and given 100%. Lizbeth continues to make strides of improvement in everything she sets her mind to. She is a leader on and off the court and we are proud to call her a Lady Hawk Athlete! Way to go Lizbeth!

Christnes participated in football and basketball. He has been a great asset in all sports and has been an A Honor Roll student all year long. He works harder than most and always gives his best. 


Prairie Vista Middle School - Laissa Zeutsa and Ray Kondi

Laissa is a 7th grade Lady Coyote at Prairie Vista. She has competed in cross country, volleyball, and basketball. Laissa is a hard worker, who always pushes herself and her teammates. She is a leader on and off the court. She is on A honor roll, in the band and is a member of the Girl Scouts. We are very proud of Laissa and her commitment, effort, and loyalty to the Lady Coyote program! We can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in track and soccer. 

Ray shows exemplary leadership both in the classroom and on the court. In the classroom, he maintains A and B through his strong work ethic and academic commitment. He continues to challenge himself with an honors-level course load. On the basketball court, Ray works hard and is a player for the 7th grade C team. Ray approaches each practice and game with a relentless competitive spirit. He pushes his teammates to be their best. Off the court, Ray carries himself with humility and grace - always representing our program with pride and dignity. We congratulate Ray on this well-deserved recognition and know that with his drive to improve continuously, he will only continue elevating his game and leadership for Prairie Vista. Thank you for exemplifying great character, Ray!

 



DECEMBER 2023


Highland Middle School - K'Mari Thompson and Zyaire Bell

K’Mari is an absolute powerhouse on the basketball court! Her skills are out of this world, and her hard work pays off. Whether it's shooting hoops or hustling for rebounds, she gives it her all. K’Mari’s dedication and determination are truly admirable. She's a true inspiration to everyone around her. We're so proud to have her as our athlete of the month! Keep shining, K’Mari! 


Zyaire is a multi-sport athlete who has grown into an amazing leader both on and off the field of play. Not only has Zyaire been a force to reckon with in both football and basketball, but he consistently impressed in the classroom as well. Highland is extremely proud of this young man and excited for his bright future. 



Prairie Vista Middle School - Adelaide Mortensen and Cailen Thornton

Adelaide is a great student-athlete. She dominates on the court in rebounding and leads the Lady Coyotes in scoring for her team. Adelaide always accomplishes tasks with a smile and always eager to learn. She is an asset to our athletic program. 


Cailen is an up-and-coming 7th grade star on the football field and basketball court. He plays at a high level in both sports, his ability to take over a game is what separates him from the rest. Cailen maintains good grades and shows good leadership both in the classroom and on the court. He approaches every practice and game with an immense work ethic and a positive attitude that lifts his teammates. We congratulate Cailen on this well-deserved recognition and know that with his drive and work ethic, he will continue elevating his game and leading by example.


NOVEMBER 2023



Highland Middle School - Brilee Mayfield and Logan Henry

Brilee has been nominated because of her dedication to the athletic program in her 7th grade year. She is the Lady Hawk Mascot, was on the volleyball team and is now playing basketball. Brilee shows up ready to work every single day, brings a positive attitude, and is a leader on and off the court. We are lucky to have her! 

Logan is a great athlete and a great student. He competed this year in Cross Country for the first time and made the A team Basketball Team. He is a great asset to the team and to our program. 



Prairie Vista Middle School - Kensley Wilson and Kouame Koffi

Kensley has been a very special part of the Prairie Vista Girls athletic program.  She currently plays on the 7th grade A team for basketball and was a very big part of the volleyball A team.  She was an outstanding leader as a 6th grader in pre-athletics and has organically stepped into the same role as a 7th grader. Kensley goes beyond expectation on and off the court and we are looking forward to watching her grow even more as a student-athlete. 

Kouame has exemplary leadership both in the classroom and on the court. In the classroom, he maintains a 3.4 GPA through his academic dedication and hard work. On the basketball court, Kouame is an up and coming star player on the 8th grade team. Playing at a high level offensively and defensively, his ability to score and lock down offensive players makes him a certified hooper. He approaches every practice and game with an immense work ethic and a positive attitude that lifts up his teammates. Kouame handles himself with humility and always puts the team before individual accomplishments. We congratulate Kouame on this well-deserved recognition and know that with his drive and work ethic, he will continue elevating his game and leading by example.


OCTOBER 2023



Highland Middle School - Kaili Sien and Deon Duncan

Kaili stepped into the role as a setter and has made huge strides since the beginning of the season. She works hard every day and is a leader on and off the court. Kaili is also in honor band and just placed first chair in oboe for the All-District band. With her busy schedule in band and volleyball she still manages to keep up with GT/Advanced classes and is on the A Honor Roll.

Deon has fantastic leadership on and off the field and is an excellent competitor. He has been our top running back and outside linebacker. Deon is on the A/B honor roll and even sings bass in our Highland Choir. 

 



Prairie Vista Middle School - Angel Tamang and Jullean Arboleda

Angel is such a delightful young lady with so much passion and determination for excellence in all that she does.  She is a coachable athlete and a magnificent team player. She has a record of 3-1 in singles. We are proud of her and look forward to watching her continue to grow as a student-athlete. 


Jullean shows leadership both on and off the field He demonstrates tremendous dedication to his academic success. On the football field, Jullean is emerging as a rising star on the 7th grade team. He plays offense and defense and is an impact player on both sides of the ball. Jullean leads through his work ethic and great attitude.


SEPTEMBER 2023



Highland Middle School - Isabella Salinas-Rodriguez and Zaiden Landers

Isabella has never placed lower than third place in a meet this season and continues to improve each week. She placed 12th at the Zone Meet.

Zaiden has placed top 5 in almost all the cross country meets this year. He was the top placing Highland 8th grade boy runner placing 10th.



Prairie Vista Middle School - Kritisha Adhikari and Christopher Chapman

Kritisha is one of our 7th grade athletes currently playing volleyball and running cross country for the Lady Coyotes.  She is an awesome kid who is always looking for ways to get better, asking coaches to stay after practice and help her with her skills, and seeking advice on techniques to fine tune her skills.  Kritisha is a leader on the volleyball court and on the cross country course. She remains positive and constantly encourages her teammates regardless of the situation.  We are excited to see her continue to blossom. 


What separates Chris from his peers is his exemplary leadership both on and off the field. He carries a 3.89 GPA in the classroom, demonstrating tremendous dedication to his academic success. On the football field, Chris is emerging as a star player. He is averaging 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns per game to power our offense. But beyond his stats, Chris leads through his work ethic and motivational attitude. He continually pushes his teammates to be their best. Chris handles himself with humility and puts the team before individual accomplishments. He is a role model athlete who represents the core values of Prairie Vista. We congratulate Chris on this well-deserved recognition and know he will continue to elevate his game and lead by positive example.
