Junior Andrew Diaz had a strong showing at his first State Wrestling tournament on Feb. 16 at the Berry Center in Cypress, TX, competing in the 190lb weight class. Despite a 7-1 Decision loss in his first match against Corpus Christi Carroll, Diaz bounced back with a big 5-2 win over a tough opponent from The Colony. In his final match against Whitehouse, Andrew fought valiantly but fell short of victory. Diaz finished his junior year in the Top 12 in the state. "I loved State, and it was a great experience, but it showed me I am just scratching the surface of how hard I need to prepare," reflected Drew. Coach Redden expressed pride in Drew's accomplishments, highlighting his dedication throughout the season and the focused mindset that powered him through post-season tournaments. "He was laser-focused on his goals each postseason tournament, Drew was able to grind down opponents and find ways to win." As Drew sets his sights on the offseason, he aims to increase his wrestling knowledge, with the ultimate goal of returning to the state tournament and elevating his teammates to make it there with him next season. Congratulations Drew!
