Both Saginaw gymnastics teams competed in the Texas State Championships in College Station at A&M Consolidated High School on April 28-29. Heading into the State meet the boys team were District and Regional Champions. They had great performances and return home as the State Runner-Ups. "At the beginning of the season, I knew we had a team that could contend with the best, but we had some injuries and discipline issues that had to be addressed," said Head Gymnastics Coach Briley. Some of the younger members of the team stepped up big at the State meet. After day one the boys team was in second place by just 1.1 points. The Rough Riders added a few new skills on vault and it paid off with Saginaw in a first-ever finish of first, second and third place. Caleb Walrond is the State Champion in the vault with Grand Morgan in second and Breil Pyfer in third place. Saginaw had several top 10 finishes. Walrond was fourth on the parallel bars, sixth on the high bar, and fourth in the All-Around. Morgan earned second on the parallel bars and high bar and placed tenth on rings. Pyfer took fourth on the high bar. Liam Ryniker placed eighth on the rings. Xavier Brattain finished ninth on the high bar with Gabriel Chase right behind in tenth.

The girls team started out day one of State with a 114.825 setting a new school record for compulsory. Hannah Vasquez (38.5), Eva Goode (37.925) and Maya Castillo (37.575) hit all four routines they performed with many season high scores. Chelsie Jefferson recorded a season high vault score of 9.725. Cameron Briley had a season high bar score of 9.525. Gabriella Lara tied her season high on Beam with a 9.35. On day two they set another school record with a two-day total of 224.625 and finished 11th in the State. Karen Kabuya and Jefferson both recorded season highs on vault. Sarah Harding and Vasquez scored season highs on the floor event. Vasquez tied for 13th on bars and 15th in the State in the All-Around. Goode finished 25th in the state in the All-Around.
