Saginaw baseball hosted Northwest in their district opener on Tuesday, March 14. Junior Gavin Leadbetter singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game. Northwest secured the win in the top of the eighth inning with a final score of 4-2.
Junior Caden Welker took the loss for the Rough Riders. He allowed one hit and two runs over one inning, striking out one. Junior Donnie Edgar started the game for Saginaw. Edgar lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out eight.
The Rough Riders had six hits in the game. Senior Austin Kleman and Leadbetter collected two hits to lead the team.
Saginaw travels to take on Azle on Tuesday, March 21, and returns back home against the Hornets on Friday, March 24.
