Saginaw came out aggressive, consistently finding themselves in the Northwest side of the field. After a couple of shots that just missed, Ali Khan broke through near the midway point of the half and put it through the back of the net, off the assist from Parker Yocom. On the play, Yocom brought the goalie out of the box with his shifty ball handling and was able to find Khan.
The Rough Riders kept up the intensity in the second half; Yocom and Mathy Tampwo who both had near goals in the first half, found the back of the net to help Saginaw take the 3-0 lead.
Northwest scored with 15 minutes to play to pull within 3-1, and nearly had a second goal, but George Farley cleared the ball out to prevent the goal.
Yocom nearly converted a bicycle kick with 6:21 to play, but the ball sailed just over the top of the net. Eduardo Yanez iced the game with a goal with under four minutes left to secure the victory for Saginaw.
After a bye week on Tuesday, the Rough Riders will hit the road and take on Aledo on Friday, Feb. 24. Kick-off from Aledo High School is set for 5 p.m.
