Friday was a close one at the Saginaw Baseball Field, with two evenly matched teams duking it out for control over the diamond and staying close in score until the very end. The Rough Riders were on the board in the first inning thanks to a run from Evan Wainwright and held the lead by a strong performance on the bump into the second. It was here that the Hornets were able to slip through and score a run of their own, tying up the game. A back and forth ensued which saw both teams sending batters back to the dugout consistently, continuing into the fifth when Azle barely managed to pull ahead with one more run. Despite their best efforts, the Rough Riders were unable to make up the difference and narrowly fell short of Azle at the end of the ninth inning with 1-2 final score. Evan Smith, Vincent Gonzalez, and Wainwright helped lead the offense, each collecting one hit for the team.
The Rough Riders are back on their home field Tuesday, April 1st, facing down the Brewer Bears.
