From nail-biter to show-stopper, the Area Playoff game against Mansfield Summit on Tuesday was a clean and decisive win for the Rough Riders. The first half seemed to be evenly matched, with one goal from Pelun Wadam and assisted by Alan Sanchez being the highlight, but after halftime is when the boys in red really began to pull away from their opponents. Goal two came from a tag-team play by Saul Ruiz with a corner kick that Aaden Segovia sent straight to the back of the net with a powerful headbutt. Ruiz also scored the third goal with a great shot, and Segovia swooped in during the final minutes of the game for one last point, drilling the ball and sending it home from 35 yards out in what head coach Colin Yocom called an "Unstoppable shot." With a final score of 4-0, Saginaw secured the tile of Area Champions for the second year in a row.
The Rough Riders are on the road to Odessa Friday, March 28, facing off against El Paso Burges in the Regional Semifinals.
