In a thrilling contest, The Rough Riders came up just short, losing 42-37 to the Brewer Bears in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final possession on Friday, Sept. 29. Saginaw staged a remarkable comeback, erasing a 28-3 deficit to cut the lead to just five points with less than a minute remaining in the game. The tension was palpable as Rough Rider's quarterback Roman Morales drove the team to the Bear's 18-yard line, but a missed connection with Aidan Collier in the endzone ended the epic comeback bid. Offensively, Morales shone with 212 passing yards and two touchdowns, combined with 87 rushing yards and two additional scores. Collier contributed six receptions for 76 yards and one touchdown, while Noah Ambriz added 59 yards on four receptions and one touchdown. Benny Cordova recorded 51 yards on four catches, and Corey Baker rushed for an impressive 103 yards on 16 carries. Defensively, the Rough Riders rebounded after a slow start, allowing just 14 points from the midway point of the second quarter onward. Defensive standouts included Jimmy Howard, who led the team with eight tackles, Jeampy Mukuna with seven tackles, Robert Moreno with seven tackles, Frank Westmoreland with six tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, and Malik McCoy, who contributed six tackles, including a team-leading three tackles for loss and a sack.

Saginaw will travel to face Northwest on Thursday, Oct. 5. Kick off is set for 7 pm at Northwest ISD Stadium.
