In their 2023 district opener on Thursday, Sept. 7, the Saginaw Rough Riders faced a tough battle against the Burleson Centennial Spartans, ultimately falling short. Despite the loss, there were numerous bright spots for Saginaw. On the defensive front, senior Jonathan Lawson emerged as a standout player, amassing 10 tackles and securing one pass PBU. Jimmy Howard and Isaiah Quinones also showcased their skills with seven and six tackles, respectively. Jeampy Mukuna contributed five tackles and a pivotal interception to the team's effort.

Turning to the offensive side, quarterback Roman Morales delivered a commendable performance, accumulating 253 passing yards and two touchdowns. Receivers Aidan Collier and Jaivean Goff excelled, with Collier making four receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown, while Goff secured two catches for 82 yards and a touchdown of his own. Senior Roland Jackson led the ground game, rushing for 52 yards on nine carries during the game.

Saginaw will host Denton Ryan on Friday, Sept. 15. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
