Brewer scored on their opening possession, but the Saginaw defense tightened and forced Brewer to punt on their remaining possessions of the quarter.
Saginaw got on the board in the second quarter, following a Brewer touchdown. Giovanni Petrella connected with Zach Garrett for six-yards, and on the next play; Jacob Brewer gashed the Brewer defense with a 70-yard touchdown run to bring the Rough Riders within 14-7.
At the half, the Rough Riders trailed 16-7; giving up a safety towards the end of the second quarter.
The defense continued their strong play in the second half; Caleb Lamas, Alaril Ferguson, Isaiah Quinones, Riley Devries, and Tyler Self all recorded tackles for a loss.
Saginaw's special teams had some big plays; On a fourth down, the ball sailed over the punter's head, and Jonus Wren ensured that there would be no conversion, tackling the punter as he was recovering the football. That play, set up a touchdown pass from Petrella to Aiden Collier to bring Saginaw within 29-14, but turnovers plagued Saginaw as Brewer would go on to win 42-14.
The Rough Riders will host Northwest for on Friday, Oct. 7. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Rough Rider Stadium.
