Saginaw hosted district-mate Chisholm Trail on Friday and threw down the gauntlet for one of the closest duels of the season, seconded only by the two teams' first meeting in January. For much of the first half and the first part of the third quarter, the girls in red held a narrow but strong lead over the visiting Lady Rangers. A combination of an aggressive offense and rigid defense allowed for the Lady Rough Riders to keep control of the court for a majority of the match. Sadly, however, their opponent managed to find small gaps in their armor that granted them a path forward to claim the game 41-47. Though the end was not the repeat they had fought to achieve, Saginaw remains 4th in the district and are guaranteed a spot in the first round of playoffs. Shaniah Franklin led the team with 23 points to her name as Anabelle Aguilera and Iliza Mazimapka added eight points each to the final score.
The Lady Rough Riders are on the road Tuesday, February 10th, to face off against the Fossil Ridge Lady Panthers for the last district game of the season.
