Pioneer Stadium was the sight of one of the biggest showdowns of the season last Friday, pitting long-time friendly rivals Boswell and Saginaw against one another in the famous Battle of the Wagon Wheel! At the start, it proved to be a sizable challenge for the Rough Riders, a series of setbacks putting the boys in red behind their azure opponents 0-21 going into halftime. However, like any good team, Saginaw took all of the information they had learned in the first part of the game and completely turned it around in the second. This sudden shift was the turning point as the Rough Riders put up 14 points in their favor, a thunderous return to the field that was ironically cut short due to lightning and pushing the final quarter into the next morning. The lull in gameplay had no negative effects on this fire, however, because the boys came back Saturday and completely turned the tide. Defense held firm and kept the Pioneers from scoring again for the rest of the game while the offense stormed the Boswell end zone thrice more, rounding out this year's Battle of the Wagon Wheel with a 35-21 come-from-behind Saginaw victory.
Several stars rose out of the adversity faced on the field. Josh Greek threw for 266 passing yards and three touchdowns, Kaden Stewart made two catches for 74 yards, and Isaiah Quinones made five carries for 75 yards and one touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Cornell Davis was the biggest mover, making seven tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one blocked punt. Najae Nicholson and Isaiah Quinones followed close behind him, with 11 tackles and one hurried pass, and 15 tackles respectively.
The Rough Riders plan to keep the wins coming as they return home this Friday, facing off against Fort Worth Polytechnic. Congratulations, gentlemen!
