Facing off against the Brewer Bears, the first game of the season was a tough one for the Rough Riders. It was a difficult but hard-fought battle that taught the boys in red a lot about what they are doing right and in what areas they want to improve. Despite the 9-33 loss, Saginaw had plenty of stars on both sides of the ball for this First Responder celebratory matchup. Offense was lead by Elijah Irvin, who handled 11 carries for 95 total yards, and Landon Martin, who made three catches over 39 yards. On defense, Isaac Bukasa, Najae Nicholson, and Tory Lord held the line with a total of 45 tackles between all three of them, with four total tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery on the part of Isaac Bukasa. "In every loss, there is a lesson," commented Head Coach Mike DeWitt, "and the Rough Riders will learn from this experience as they prepare to bounce back against Boswell on Friday in the Battle for the Wagon Wheel."
The Rough Riders head across the tracks for a time-honored tradition this Friday. The Battle for the Wagon Wheel against districtmate Boswell High School is just around the corner!
