Saginaw sophomore Sophianne Cortes earns two district champion event titles; Six athletes advance to Regionals

Saginaw Swim showcased some excellent performances at the 5-5A District Championships held on Friday, Jan. 26 at the Northwest ISD Aquatic Center. They finished sixth overall as a team. Sophomore Sophianne Cortes emerged as the District Champion in both the 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly and advances to Regional for both events. She also was awarded the "Athlete of the Meet" award. Notably, Cortes currently holds six school records.

Joining Cortes at Regionals are other outstanding swimmers:
Girls 200 Medley Relay: Autumn Smith, Macey Braden, Divya Chhetri, Amber Lewis
Girls 200 Freestyle Relay: Cortes, Ava Washington, Braden, Chhetri
Girls 400 Freestyle Relay: Cortes, Washington, Braden, Chhetri

Maddox Miller stands as the first alternate for Regionals in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle events. The upcoming Region 2-5A Championships are scheduled for Feb. 9-10 at the Mansfield Sports Complex. Congratulations to our Rough Rider swimmers and best of luck at Regionals!
