The boys in red were out on their home turf despite the weather on Tuesday, throwing down the gauntlet against the Fossil Ridge Panthers. Several strong performances helped lead the Rough Riders to victory. From the mound, Cason Kersey stood as the defensive fulcrum, pitching for six and two-thirds innings and only giving up five hits and two runs throughout the stint. Izaiah Zepeda was the tip of the spear on offense, taking to the plate four times over the course of the evening and send the ball out into the field three times with a single in the second, fourth, and sixth. A double from Aiden Nicholson and a grounded out from Brayden Hulsey helped bring the boys score to 5-1 in the second, and keep them ahead to claim the 7-5 win as the clock hit zero.
Friday, April 24th, Saginaw faces off against the Panthers in round two of their duel and the last game of district play.
