Vance Hughes

Coach Hughes serves as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach and Assistant Campus Coordinator at Saginaw High School. During his tenure, he has led the girls' basketball program to multiple playoff appearances and holds the distinction of being the all-time winningest girls' basketball coach in Saginaw history and has over 400 career victories.

As a player, Coach Hughes earned recognition early on, being named the 1981 Trans American Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and First-Team All-Conference at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas. He later transferred to Henderson County Junior College in Athens, Texas, where he played a pivotal role in leading the men’s basketball team to its first-ever national tournament appearance and a third-place finish in the NJCAA Final Four.

Before joining Saginaw, Coach Hughes gained valuable experience coaching both boys’ and girls’ basketball programs across multiple school districts at the 4A, 5A, and 6A levels. His coaching achievements include winning a 6A state championship at Waxahachie High School, securing two state runner-up finishes at Kennedale High School, and guiding multiple teams to district championships and playoff runs. In 2005, he founded the Texas Dream Team Basketball Club, a select basketball organization that continues to develop young talent.

Coach Hughes is married to Corinne Hughes, a teacher and coach at Sam Houston High School in Arlington ISD. Coach Hughes has five children that all had success in athletics.

· Antwan Kirk-Hughes – Parade All-American from Waxahachie High School, football scholarship recipient at the University of Texas, and former free agent with the San Diego Chargers.

· Vantranique Hughes – 2006 Texas 4A Player of the Year, WBCA All-American Honorable Mention, and basketball scholarship recipient at the University of Texas.

· Destini Hughes – Texas 3A Player of the Year, Parade and McDonald’s All-American from Kennedale High School, who went on to play at Louisiana State University.

· Jamaika Hughes – Two-time TABC All-State honoree from Kennedale High School, who earned a basketball scholarship to Texas Tech University.

· Vance Hughes II – TABC All-State Player from Kennedale High School and basketball scholarship recipient at Trinity Valley Community College.
