Margaret Phillips

Coach Phillips grew up in Arlington, Texas but currently resides in Euless, Texas, and has lived there for 25 years. Coach Phillips is an avid tennis player. In 2008, she began assisting the tennis pro for the City of Grapevine (the late Roger Williams) with his area drill classes, and in 2011, she began teaching drill classes and private lessons on her own in Grapevine, Bedford, and Roanoke. Coach Phillips also teaches tennis for the Tarrant County College for Kids summer program, 2018 marked her sixth summer with this program.

After Coach Phillips began teaching tennis in 2011, she decided to go back to school to earn her degree so that she could pursue a career coaching tennis and teaching. In 2015, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and a minor in history, and in December 2016, Coach Phillips earned her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis on coaching at Texas Woman’s University.  Coach Phillips is currently working on her Ph.D. in Sports Leadership and Management through Concordia University Chicago and will begin research for her dissertation in Spring 2022.

Coach Phillips and her husband Mike have two daughters, Virginia and Katie. Virginia and Katie both played sports at Colleyville Heritage High School.  Virginia was on the girls wrestling team for 2 years and Katie played varsity tennis all 4 years. 

Under Coach Phillips, the Rough Rider tennis program has earned recognition as a USTA No Cut Program, and Coach Phillips has been recognized as a USTA No Cut coach. Additionally, Coach Phillips is registered with the USTA as a USTA Net Generation provider.

Rough Rider Tennis had a very successful 2020-2021 year.  Varsity was undefeated during the Fall Season, and they were the District Champions and the Bi-District Champions.  Additionally, both the Varsity Boys and the Varsity Girls were the district champions in the Spring, and 14 of the 16 members of the varsity team advanced to the Spring Regional Tennis Tournament. Her 2021-2022 teams finished second both in the fall and spring. 

Coach Phillips is proud of her team and the progress her athletes have made each year both on the court and in the classroom, and she is looking forward to another great year at Saginaw High School!
