Chris Carter

Chris Carter has nearly 30 years of coaching and teaching experience, and is entering his sixth season as the head baseball coach; prior to taking the head coaching job, he was still on staff as an assistant baseball and football coach.

Carter’s coaching career began in 1993 at Olney High School as the head baseball coach where he led Olney to District and Bi-District Championships. In 1997, he led Alvord to District Championships in baseball and Regional Semi-Finals in football. From 2008-2014 he led the Decatur Eagles Baseball team to District, Bi-District, Area Championships, and a Regional Semifinal appearance in 2008 and 2009. Before coming to Eagle Mountain-Saginaw, Coach Carter was the football defensive coordinator at Chico High School. As the assistant baseball coach at Saginaw, Carter helped improve a struggling Rough Rider program from a 3 game win season in 2016 to 15 wins in 2017. The 2018 season became a rebuilding season after losing 14 seniors in 2017.

As a player, Coach Carter was the recipient of a baseball scholarship at Vernon College, and then finished his playing at Howard Payne University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science, Physical Education, and English. In 1992, while at Howard Payne, he was the baseball team captain for the Yellow Jackets. Carter holds the team record for pitching appearances with 25 in 1992. In addition, he was the recipient of the Fighting Jacket Award and was an All-Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference Pitcher in 1992.

Coach Carter’s program philosophy is for each player to focus on the process of becoming a better student/athlete rather than baseball game outcomes. Each player is challenged with achieving selflessness, excellence, and energy both on and off the field.
